Norica Nicolai

MEP, Vice-Chair, Subcommittee on Security and Defence, European Parliament

Norica Nicolai is a popular and respected Romanian politician and magistrate; a well-known public voice in norica1defending human rights and democracy and in promoting a stronger relationship between political actors and civil society.

She became a Member of the European Parliament on 7th June 2009 on a national liberal platform, within the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE).  As MEP, she is currently the Vice-Chairwoman on the Security and Defense Committee; a member in the Committees of Foreign Affairs and the Women's Rights and Gender Equality.  She is also a member of the Delegation to the EU-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee and a substitute member in the Delegation for Relations with the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.  Throughout her political career in Romania, Mrs. Nicolai has held the position of Secretary of State in the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Senator, member of the Judicial Committee, Vice-Chairwoman of the Defense Committee, and magistrate among others.
