Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova
Mr. Pirkka Tapiola is a Finnish diplomat who was appointed head of EU Delegation in Republic of Moldova in April 2013.
Mr. Tapiola held the position of Senior Adviser for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova in the Policy Unit of the former EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, Dr Javier Solana. Mr Tapiola is a career member of the Finnish Diplomatic Service, from which he is currently on a leave of absence. His past assignments have included Deputy Head of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Mission to Latvia in the mid-1990s and Deputy Head of Mission of the Finnish Embassy to Thailand (also accredited to Burma/Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos). Immediately prior to joining the Policy Unit in November 2004, Mr Tapiola served as Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Finland in Kiev, Ukraine. Mr. Tapiola holds a Masters Degree in Political Science/International Relations from the University of Helsinki. Mr. Pirkka Tapiola is fluent in Finnish, English, German, French, Swedish, Russian and Ukrainian.
